Capabilities[]
The user is able to manipulate the meridian system, the bodily network through which one’s life energy (aura-based, chi-based, soul-based) flows. According to traditional Chinese medicine, the system permeates the entire body, transporting the life energy just as one’s vascular system transports blood and other bodily fluids. The complexity of the pathways creates the balanced nature of the body’s operations as well as emotional states. The energy flows to specific organs and extremities, allowing for their processes. It is connected to specialized nodes (pressure points), through which it can potentially be released. By controlling the meridians, one can manipulate both physiological energy flow and the functionality of the body to enhance, diminish and/or alter various physical capabilities, even to the point of granting oneself or another superhuman capabilities.
Types[]
There are twelve regular meridians (principal meridians) corresponding to specific organs, limbs and essences of yin and yang.
- Arm Tai Yin (Lung Meridian) - This meridian starts in the solar plexus and descends to meet the large intestine. It will then turn to connect with the lungs. It is responsible for governing respiration and energy flow, and it is connected to the element of metal.
- Leg Tai Yin (Spleen Meridian) - This meridian starts in the big toe and runs along the inside of the lower legs before entering the abdomen and connecting to the spleen. It is responsible for governing digestion, energy and blood production and is connected to the element of metal.
- Arm Shao Yin (Heart Meridian) - This meridian starts in the heart and branches out to meet small intestine, throat, eyes and arm. It is responsible for governing blood, blood vessels, the tongue, speech and is connected to the element of fire. It is also said to house the human spirit.
- Leg Shao Yin (Kidney Meridian) - This meridian starts on the bottom of the small toe, travels up the leg, enters the body through the backbone and connects to the kidney. It is responsible for governing bone growth, bone marrow, bodily fluid flow and is connect to the element of water.
- Arm Jue Yin (Pericardium Meridian) - This meridian starts in the pericardium, connects with the triple burner region, travels through the chest and ends with the fingers. It is responsible for governing protection of the heart and is connected with the element of fire.
- Leg Jue Yin (Liver Meridian) - This meridian starts with the top of the big toe, goes up through the leg, genital region and connects with the liver and gall bladder and goes up further along the throat and eyes before emerging from the forehead. It is responsible for governing energy flow through the body, bodily sinews, eye health and is connected with the element of wood.
- Arm Yang Ming (Large Intestine Meridian) - This meridian starts with the index fingertip, runs between it and the thumb, proceeds up the arm to the shoulder while one branch goes to the large intestine and the other goes to the oral region and the nose. It is responsible for governing excretion and bodily fluid purification and is connected with the element of metal.
- Leg Yang Ming (Stomach Meridian) - This meridian starts in the head region, goes across the shoulder, along the stomach and finally down the leg through the toe. It is responsible for governing energy absorption through digestion and is connected with the element of earth.
- Arm Tai Yang (Small Intestine Meridian) - This meridian starts at the tip of the little finger, runs up the shoulder to the bottom of the neck and moves through the heart and stomach to meet the small intestine. It is responsible for governing nutrient and water absorption and bowel functions and is connected with the element of fire.
- Leg Tai Yang (Bladder Meridian) - This meridian, the most complex, starts in the eyelid, travels across the head, then branches off to form two paths along the spine to the rectum and the thigh. It responsible for governing urinary waste and is connected with the element of water.
- Arm Shao Yang (Triple Burner Meridian) - This meridian – named for the upper, middle and lower regions of the torso – starts on the ring fingertip, goes up the arm and forms two branches, with one going into the chest, pericardium and triple burner region while the other runs up the side of the neck, goes around the face and ends at the end of the eyebrow. It is responsible for governing the movement and transformation of solids and liquids through the system and energy movement and is connected with the element of fire.
- Leg Shao Yang (Gall Bladder Meridian) - This meridian starts at the outer corner of the eye, descends behind the ear to the skull’s corner, goes up and down the head region before going down the neck, through the abdomen to the gall bladder and continuing down the leg to the 4th toe and big toe. It is responsible for governing sinews, tendons, digestive assistance and is connected with the element of wood.
There are also eight Extraordinary Meridians that are considered energy vessels.
- Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) - This meridian starts between the kidneys, flows down to the perineum region and travels up the front of the body to the mouth. It is called the Sea of Yin, as it affects yin channels and is responsible for conception, not only of physical birthing, but also of birthing ideas or important work.
- Du Mai (Governing Vessel) - This meridian starts between the kidneys, flows down the perineum, then up along the spine, through the brain and then down the face. It is called the Sea of Yang as it controls yang energy in the body and nourishes the brain to deal with issues like dizziness and poor memory.
- Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) – This meridian starts between the kidneys, with one branch descending the uterus and perineum and emerging through the leg and big toe while another goes up the abdomen and eventually through the head region. It is called the Sea of Blood as it manages energy and blood flow through the primary channels.
- Dai Mai (Girdle Vessel) – This meridian starts at the liver meridian and goes down to the waistline before encircling the abdomen and connecting with a side kidney meridian. It is the only solely horizontally flowing meridian, bisecting the body; in that regard, it manages energy flow between the two halves.
- Yin Wei Mai (Yin linking Vessel) – This meridian starts in the leg and ascends the body through the abdomen and chest before reaching the neck. It manages the release of energy and blood in the various meridians, especially interfacing with all yin meridians.
- Yang Wei Mai (Yang linking Vessel) – This meridian star in the heel and follows a route up the legs, abdomen and chest before circulating the head and neck. As with the Yin linking Vessel, it manages the release of energy and blood in the meridians, except it specializes in interfacing with all yang meridians.
- Yin Qiao Mai (Yin Heel Vessel) – This meridian starts in the interior underside of the foot, travels up the leg and follows a course up the body before reaching the head region. It manages muscle movement and the interface of yin-yang in the body, aiding the operations of the lower limbs.
- Yang Qiao Mai (Yang Heel Vessel) – This meridian star in the heel, travels up the leg to the waistline and goes through the back region before circulating in the head. Like the Yin Heel Vessel, it manages muscle movement and the interface of yin-yang in the body, aiding the operations of the lower limbs.
