RECORDS The News-Messenger, Fremont, Ohio, Wednesday, September 17, 1997 Deaths Elizabeth May April 27, 1918 Sept. 15, 1997 Former Gibson Street resident Elizabeth "Bettie" May, 79, died Monday at her daughter's home on Portage Road, Wayne. She had been staying with her daughter since January due to her illness. She was born in Willoughby, Ohio, to Karl and Pauline Emily (Wegner) Knass. She married Donald May on Nov.
28, 1943, in Fremont. He died on Jan. 17, 1981. Mrs. May administered the Republican party headquarters in Fremont from 1970 until 1992 and had worked for the Sandusky County Board of Elections.
A homemaker, Mrs. May drove a trolley car during World War II and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. She was also a member of the Fremont VFW Auxiliary and First English Lutheran Church in Gibsonburg. Surviving are daughters Wendy S. Gonzales of Wayne and Mary Ellen Rolf of Fremont, son Dean C.
May of Fremont, eight grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. Sister Gertrude Zumstein is deceased. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Nopper-Veh Funeral Home in Gibsonburg.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at First English Lutheran Church where the body will lie in state one hour before the services. Burial is at Riverview Cemetery in Port Clinton. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or Bridge Hospice in Findlay. Norval Goeckerman Feb.
15, 1913 Sept. 16, 1997 Norval M. Goeckerman, 84, of Catawba Island, died Tuesday at Firelands Community Hospital. He was born in Jefferson County in Nebraska to William and Elizabeth (Dresp) Goeckerman. A retired farmer, Mr.
Goeckerman was a member and former councilman for Resurrection Lutheran Church in Catawba Island. He was also a member and former councilman at Zion (Latcha) Lutheran Church in Perrysburg for 70 years. He was also a member of the farm bureau. Surviving are his wife Irene Roder Goeckerman; stepsons Herbert, Roland, and Kenneth Roder of Catawba Island, and Dennis Roder of Dallas, Texas; stepdaughter Joan Crawford of Castalia; eight stepgrandchildren and nine stepgreat-grandchildren; brothers Clarence Goeckerman of Perrysburg and William Goeckerman of Northwood; and sisters Inez Sandwich of Stony Ridge, Vera Radeloff of Pemberville and Evelyn Leslie of Luckey. His first wife Almeda (Emch), brothers Lloyd and Leonard and sister Esther are deceased.
Visitation begins at 2 p.m. Thursday at Gerner-WolfKopchak Funeral Home in Port Clinton with the family present 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Resurrection Lutheran Church where the body will lie in state one hour before the services.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Friday at Troy Township Cemetery in Luckey. Memorials may be made to either church. Geraldine Williams June 7, 1941 Sept. 16, 1997 Geraldine "Jeri" Williams, 56, of Park Avenue, died Tuesday at Memorial Hospital.
She was born at Lima Memorial Hospital to Charley and Maxine (Wobler) Crouse. Living in Fremont since 1961, she married William W. Williams on June 9, 1963, at Hayes United Methodist Church. He survives. Mrs.
Williams graduated from Ada High School in 1959 and Lima Beauty School in 1960. She worked at several beauty salons in the Fremont area and owned Jeri's Beauty Chateau on South Park Avenue. She was a former member of the Sugar Grove Methodist Church in Ada and a member of Fremont Alliance Church and Fremont Ladies of the Moose Lodge 1286. Also surviving are her parents of Fremont; daughter Tonya Louise Walters of Helena; three grandchildren; brother Ronald Charles Crouse of Fremont; sister Joyce Ellen Talbot of Fremont; and nieces, nephews and gre and nephews. Visitation is 7 to 9 p.m.

15, 1997 Denise M. Pierson-Case, 41, of Port Clinton, died Monday at home after a sudden illness. She was born in Port Clinton to Homer R. and Elsie M. (Hansen) Pierson.
She worked as a cashier for Drawbridge Marina in Port Clinton and was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor. She enjoyed working with arts and crafts. Surviving are daughters Renda Case of Port Clinton, Andrea Case and Melissa Case, both of Oak Harbor; son Stephen Case of Port Clinton; three grandchildren; her mother of Oak Harbor; sister Lucille Lieske of Oak Harbor; brother Ronald "Corky" Pierson of Oak Harbor; and former husband Wayne Case Jr. Her father and sister Judith Westfere are deceased.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Robinson-Henn-Brossia in Oak Harbor. Burial is at Locust Point Cemetery in Oak Harbor. Visitation is 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the family present 2 to 4 p.m.

Court News COMMON PLEAS A jury took about one hour Monday afternoon to find a Fremont man guilty of burglarizing a Riley Township home last October. Michael Koppus, 33, 1527 North faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison when sentenced by Sandusky County Common Pleas Judge Margaret Weaver Oct. 28. Koppus was charged with one third-degree felony count of burglary for trespassing into a home in the 3000 block of Ohio 412 on Oct. 1, 1996.
His trial began Monday morning, with Assistant Prosecutor Nancy Haley handling the case. Fremont attorney Tom Stierwalt represented Koppus.
