Jens Bergensten

Jens Peder Bergensten (or Jeb as he is more commonly known in the Minecraft community) is a Swedish video game designer. Jens Bergensten was born on May 18th, 1979. Like Markus “Notch” Persson (creator of Minecraft and Mojang), when Jeb was very young, he began programming. In 1990, when Jens Bergensten was eleven years old, he began programming his first video games. These video games were created with Turbo Pascal and BASIC. Ten years later, Jeb began modding and creating levels for the Quake III Arena video game.

A while later in life, Jens began working for Korkeken Interactive Studio, leading the development for Whispers in Akarra. Jeb’s video game was discontinued after disagreements on how the video game should be produced and designed in terms of creative vision. While studying at Malmö University in 2008, Jeb founded Oxeye Game Studio alongside two of his friends. His company, Oxeye Game Studio, is responsible for developing Mojang’s newly published video game, Cobalt. The studio also developed and published a Swedish Game Awards second place award-winning game, “Harvest: Massive Encounter.”

Minecraft

Jeb began working for Mojang in late 2010 as a backend developer for the video game Scrolls. Jens started working on many titles including Minecraft, Scrolls, and Cobalt for Mojang since his addition to their team. Jens was also credited with helping develop the video game Catacomb Snatch. Catacomb Snatch was created during the Humble Bundle Mojam charity event, in which developers of video games were meant to create a video game from absolutely nothing in 60 hours.

Since he has joined Mojang, Jeb has been credited with adding features such as Pistons, Wolves, Villages, Strongholds, Nether Fortresses and much more to Minecraft. He has also been credited with adding Redstone Repeaters to the game. With Jeb adding many significant features to Minecraft, the game has changed massively (arguably for the better). These changes have changed the way many players view and interact with their surroundings in Minecraft, giving players the option to think of new solutions to problems they may have faced.

Adding Redstone Repeaters to the game allowed for many new inventions to be created through Minecraft. This update has been empowering players to create new inventions since its release. Redstone Repeaters are responsible for almost all basic Redstone creations working the way they do. This update gave Minecraft a more technical side that was once unimaginable without the use of modifications to the game.

The Jeb Sheep

A small, fun, and interesting secret in Minecraft that plenty of players do not know aboutis the ability to make a sheep pulse all the colors of the rainbow. This easter egg was added in 2013 as a fun way to show what ​Minecraft is capable of. To perform this secret in Minecraft, players must name a sheep “jeb_” using a nametag and anvil.

Minecraft's New Lead Developer

After programming and creating many new parts, as well as unique aspects of Minecraft, and after Notch’s very abrupt leaving of Mojang in 2011, Jeb quickly became Minecraft’s lead developer and designer. Jens Bergensten’s takeover of Minecraft was very controversial at the beginning of his newly appointed position. Many fans were immediately displeased with the quick change of leadership without much warning. In the end, many fans have come to realize that Jeb has brought new ideas and improved upon many concepts in Minecraft.
